First Four In, First Two Out: Week 4

In the new era of the College Football Playoff, and after this week of college football, its time to speculate as to who will be the final four come December. There is quite a change from what we were expecting and what we saw last week, after the college football shake-up.

This projection is an estimation of what the actual College Football Play-Off Selections will be for the National Semi-Finals. This does not necessarily represent the current Top 4-6 teams of the Stay For Four Rankings.

After Week 5, here is what we are thinking here at Stay For Four.

SEC Bowl Projections, Week 4

Bowl Projections are always something that is fun to talk about at the beginning of the season. To be honest, no one really has any idea what is going to happen, which is what makes it so much fun. So let’s try to guess and see what we all come up with.

New Year’s Six Sugar: Ole Miss Rebels

New Year’s Six Peach: LSU Tigers

Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl: Alabama Crimson Tide

Outback Bowl: Texas A&M Aggies

TaxSlayer Bowl: Florida Gators

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Mississippi State Bulldogs

Belk Bowl: Tennessee Volunteers

AutoZone Liberty Bowl: Kentucky Wildcats

Texas Bowl: Missouri Tigers

Independence Bowl: Arkansas Razorbacks

Birmingham Bowl: Auburn Tigers

SEC Power Rankings, Week 4

Week 4 came and went. There is not too much shake up in this week’s power rankings, but there was some slight movement. How will those SEC teams that lost respond in Week 5? Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long!

  1. Georgia Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0 | LW: 1): Georgia Bulldogs are leading the conference via the eye test, but not necessarily in the AP Rankings. Why is that? I think it’s because I believe Ole Miss would take down the Bulldogs in a head to head battle. We will see Georgia’s first true test this weekend against Alabama.
  2. Ole Miss Rebels (4-0, 2-0 | LW: 2): The Rebels looked sluggish against Vanderbilt after their win over Alabama last week. I look for the Ole Miss to bounce back after this week, and remember who they are and how they climbed to #2 in the Power Rankings.
  3. LSU Tigers (4-0, 2-0 | LW: 3): Leonard Fournette. That is all. I mean, really, do I need to say much else? Oh yeah, their defense isn’t too bad either.
  4. Alabama Crimson Tide (3-1, 0-1 | LW:5): Alabama’s defense is arguably one of the best in the country, and is currently ranked 4th in the nation in run defense. Alabama’s offense is embarrassing according to Saban Standards. It will be interesting to see how Alabama comes out against Georgia.
  5. Texas A&M Aggies (4-0, 1-0 | LW: 4): Texas A&M needed a bit extra than 4 quarters to escape Dallas with a win over a fumbling Arkansas team. Hence why the Aggies dropped a spot in the Rankings. Kyle Allen is only getting better under Kevin Sumlin, and it will be interesting how he develops in the coming seasons.
  6. Florida Gators (4-0, 1-0 | LW: 6): Florida doesn’t really pass the eye test, but they continue to find a way to win. There has definitely been a shift in Gainesville, and an offensive mind set has taken over. Florida will get Ole Miss this weekend, and things could get a little remorse in the Sunshine State.
  7. Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 | LW: 7): Mississippi State got a little too much credit from the AP Pollsters for defensing Auburn if you ask me. On the flip side of that coin, State’s only loss is to LSU who looks to be firing on all cylinders at this point. Which way does the coin fall? At this point, you decide.
  8. Tennessee Volunteers (2-2, 0-1 | LW: 8): The dream season is starting to crumble in Knoxville, and at this point in his career, Butch Jones has the same amount of wins as Derek Dooley through this point in his Tennessee Career. If Tennessee can’t get on the right track sooner rather than later, it could get ugly quickly for Butch Jones and company.
  9. Kentucky Wildcats (3-1, 2-1 | LW: 11): Kentucky should probably be ranked higher, I’m just not sure where they should go quite yet. The Wildcats looked impressive over a down Missouri Tigers team, but what does that really mean? Kentucky is still on the rise, but this year they need to take a big step forward. They are at least on the right track, I think.
  10. Missouri Tigers (3-1, 0-1 | LW: 9): The Missouri Tigers appear to be on the same sinking ship as Auburn, its almost following the same blueprint. Both Tigers have nearly fallen to a lesser opponent, and then fallen to a SEC opponent. I wonder what these Tigers will do next.
  11. Arkansas Razorbacks (1-3, 0-1 | LW: 12): The big bulldozer that was to be the Arkansas Razorbacks this season, has turned out to be the leftovers of the remains of last season. The Razorbacks appear to be looking for what to turn to next this season, after their overtime loss to Texas A&M.
  12. Auburn Tigers (2-2, 0-2 | LW: 10): The Auburn Tigers can change any quarterback they want to. Its not going to make a difference. The defense is bad. The offense is bad. The tackling is bad. Everything is just bad on the plains right now. Can Malzahn right the ship?
  13. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2, 0-2 | LW: 13): Steve Spurrier may need to start saving up for his retirement house a bit sooner than he wanted to. The Gamecocks looked and gave a lack luster effort in the first half against UCF (who is 0-4 by the way), but managed to get their act together in the second half.
  14. Vanderbilt Commodores (1-3, 0-2 | LW: 14): Vanderbilt appeared to put up a good fight against Ole Miss last weekend, but didn’t do enough for me to have me put any faith into this sinking ship. The Commodores at least look like they are getting better, I guess?
